Charlotte UU Environmental Justice Blog

STRATEGIES

This page is about our strategies for engaging our community, beginning with our home UU congregation. How can we make what we propose something that will inspire and energize our friends, and help get their bottoms out of the pews and into the woods and fields, so to speak? What will work best with us?

Beyond that, what will work here in Charlotte? What will give us the biggest bang in this quintessential New South city, now a melting pot of old timers and newcomers from every point on the map?

One obvious question to me, for any of the social justice initiatives, is whether or not we want to “push” our church in terms of offering a blog and/or more interactive web presence?

    EP folks

I left something that touches on strategies in the Discussion Blog section, FYI. Hope I’m not getting ahead of ourselves.

    “Just” Environmentalists

US EPA has a small grants program that may be helpful to us. While UUCC is probably not eligible, a community-based NP is. A Portland OR org received a grant (amount ?) last year to underwrite some organizational and planning costs associated with educating local folks about air pollution causes and remedies—looks like the focus was a freeway (mobile sources).
Looks like a jt venture with June and CCAC is in the offing.
